Letters written by Dr. J. Dickson Bruns and Dr. T. G. Richardson concern a controversy regarding a breach of medical ethics on the part of Dr. Bruns at the Orleans Infirmary. Letters by the doctors to Generals Braxton Bragg and Richard Taylor dispute statements made by the other. Bruns also criticizes Richardson about Bruns's suspension from the Medical Association over the alleged misconduct.

Drs. J. Dickson Bruns and T. G. Richardson were physicians in New Orleans, La. Bruns served as a surgeon in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He settled in New Orleans after the war where he built a successful practice and participated in political affairs. He opposed reconstruction policy and was an organizer of the White League.
